About Ndalama Yathu
Ndalama Yathu is independent finance and economics journalism, reported from Malawi. The name is the Chichewa word for wealth. The publication's beat is the money, the markets, the institutions, and the policy decisions that shape the kwacha economy and the country that uses it.
We write for the people who are paid to be in the room: bank treasurers, fund managers, analysts at the Reserve Bank, finance ministry officials, IMF resident staff, and the corporate CFOs who have to operate inside whatever the rate is on Tuesday. We also write for the readers who deserve to be in the room: the small-business owner watching their margins squeeze, the diaspora professional sending dollars home, the student deciding whether macroeconomics is a career.
Our standards: every fact is sourced; every chart is reproducible from public data or a documented compilation; every premium claim is attributable, even when sources are not named on the record. We correct in the open and we explain why.
Ndalama Yathu is supported by readers. Most of what we publish is free. Subscribers get the long reads, the sectoral deep-dives, and the weekly market briefing.
